Application Checklist
Before you get started, here is what you'll need

Alpha Esquires is a mentoring program for young men in grades 8-12 currently enrolled in the Wichita area schools. Our programs promote leadership development, career awareness, community involvement, educational planning, oral communication skills, and social awareness. The Alpha Esquire program focuses heavily on male mentorship for young boys, allowing the individual needs of every Esquire to be met. We realize that one size fits all approach does not work when mentoring youth.

The program enhances and encourages participants' performance in all academic subjects. We strive to ensure participants become balanced individuals, as community service is at the program's core. When an Alpha Esquire completes the program, he will be prepared to take the SAT/ACT exams and know how to navigate the college application process successfully.

Historically, Black and minority males have faced significant disparities in educational outcomes compared to their peers. Socioeconomic factors play a crucial role in shaping educational outcomes. Black and minority males from low-income backgrounds often face additional barriers to achievement, such as inadequate access to quality education, limited resources, and exposure to violence and crime. Addressing these socioeconomic disparities is vital for improving Black male achievement. Negative stereotypes and biases can influence perceptions of Black males and contribute to achievement gaps. Challenging and dismantling these biases is crucial for fostering a supportive and equitable learning environment.

The Alpha Esquire program is not designed to get young men into institutions of higher learning; it is intended to get them through higher education institutions.

Though society tends to label the "Black Man," we strive to tear down those barriers of disbelief by developing young-positive African American men intellectually, emotionally, culturally, spiritually, socially, and physically for passage into young adulthood… It's all about the "Better Making of Men,"… but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 1 Corinthians 13:11
